The Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat was vacated by the resignation of SP President Akhilesh Yadav. Azamgarh was considered a strong fort of SP. The victory of BJP in this seat is a big sign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It was only after the election results that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing the media, said that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP will win all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
BJP has made a big psychological lead by registering victories in Azamgarh and Rampur Lok Sabha seats. At the same time, the SP has accused the BJP government of misusing the administration for the defeat in its stronghold, but it is necessary that with the defeat in the by-elections in these two seats, it has become almost impossible for the SP to stop the BJP in UP.
Azamgarh was such a strong fort of SP that despite the Modi wave in 2014, the BJP had to face defeat here. Then Mulayam Singh Yadav won here. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, SP President Akhilesh Yadav won here. Even in the by-election, SP was considered strong, but Dharmendra Yadav, who was SP candidate, lost the election.
