Several opposition leaders have given statements in support of Alt News chief Mohammad Zubair, arrested by Delhi Police on Monday for inciting sentiments of a particular religion. TMC MP Mahua Moitra and AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi have raised questions on the arrest. Moitra has described Zubair as a factor checker.
Zubair is currently on the remand of Delhi Police. He can be produced in court again today. Many leaders including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav have already issued statements regarding the arrest of Zubair.

Zubair fact checker, neither leader nor preacher
Now TMC MP Moitra tweeted saying ‘Zubair is a fact checker and an important part of democracy is to eliminate propaganda. He is neither a leader nor a preacher. Yet why only the Leader of the Opposition has come forward in his defense? Mahua coats the lion with his response, ‘Look what was lost in the war of hatred, vegetables became Hindu, goat became Muslim’.

Owaisi targets Delhi Police
On the other hand, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has also condemned the arrest of Zubair. He said that Zubair has been arrested in an unknown FIR without any notice. Accusing the Delhi Police, Owaisi said that the Delhi Police does not take any action against those raising anti-Muslim genocide slogans, but takes action against those who report crimes and counter those who give false information.

Rahul Gandhi said- thousand voices will be raised
Soon after Zubair’s arrest, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had condemned it by tweeting. He had said, ‘Everyone who exposes the hatred, bigotry and lies of the BJP is a threat to them. Arresting one voice of truth will raise a thousand more voices. Truth always triumphs over autocracy.’

Akhilesh’s taunt – ‘They do not like truth investigators’
Former UP chief minister and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav also condemned Zubair’s arrest. He quoted the lion, ‘It is not good for those lie dealers to investigate the truth… Those who carry in their sleeves, those who spit the poison of hatred.’

Case was registered last week, was not cooperating in the investigation
A case was registered against Zubair by the Delhi Police last week. According to the police officials of the Special Cell, a case was registered against Mohammad Zubair after receiving a complaint from the Twitter handle in the month of June. The complaint alleged that Mohammad Zubair had posted the objectionable picture with the intention of deliberately insulting the god of a particular religion. His tweet was being retweeted. His followers and social media organizations started spreading the tweet in a big way.
On Monday, Mohammad Zubair was called to the IFSC office in Dwarka for questioning. During interrogation, his tweet was found to be objectionable. After that he was arrested. A case has been registered against the accused under IPC sections 153 (act likely to cause disturbance to the atmosphere and cause nuisance) and section 295 (insulting an object considered sacred by any society). Police say that the accused is neither cooperating in the interrogation nor is giving his mobile and laptop. After checking the mobile and laptop, it will be known when the accused had made the controversial tweet and how many tweets have been made so far.
