Prime Minister Narendra Modi met German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday. The two leaders agreed to maintain the momentum of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership as well as diversify bilateral friendship for the benefit of their citizens and the world as a whole. Apart from Scholz, PM Modi, who arrived to participate in the G-7 summit, also met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted that the PM met Scholz on the sidelines of the G-7 summit in Schloss Elmau. Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi said that PM Modi and the German Chancellor emphasized on taking forward the India-Germany Green and Sustainable Development Partnership during the 6th IGC. Along with this, the modalities for better coordination in international organizations were also discussed. The Indian Embassy in Berlin said that the two leaders had a wonderful meeting.

Discussions on friendly relations with South Africa

In his meeting with Ramaphosa, the PM discussed the friendly relations between India and South Africa, including ways to boost trade and people-to-people ties between the two countries. Bagchi said the two leaders discussed further enhancing bilateral ties in the areas of trade, investment, defence, pharmaceuticals and food security. They agreed to continue close cooperation in both regional and multilateral fora.
