In the flood-prone states of the Northeast, the Railways will deliver all the relief materials free of cost. Railway officials gave this information on Monday. It is worth noting that the monsoon rains have come as a problem in the northeastern states like Meghalaya and Assam etc. Due to the rains, the rivers have been flooded, due to which life has become disturbed.
Railways will send relief material for free
A Northeast Frontier Railway spokesperson said in Guwahati that the free transport would be applicable for inter-state aid and relief material sent by parcel vans or second class, luggage-cum-guard vans and goods trains. He said that all types of freight charges have been waived from any part of the country to help the northeastern states. Also, no ancillary charges like late fee or other charges will be charged for transportation of relief material.
NGOs can also send help
He said that NGOs like the government can send relief material to the flood affected areas of the region free of cost. However, the NGOs would need proper approval from the Divisional Railway Managers. Divisional Railway Managers have been empowered to decide on any additional facilities, including adding additional coaches or vans to trains going to the northeastern states. He informed that less than standard composition rakes can be booked with relief material for the flood affected area.
A Northeast Frontier Railway spokesperson said that in case of NGOs, the consignor or consignee should be the District Magistrate or Deputy Commissioner under whose jurisdiction the dispatching or receiving station is located.
