The cloud burst at a distance of about two kilometers from the Amarnath cave at 5.30 pm on Friday, an official said. Due to this, the flood in the drain flowing in front of the cave created havoc.

After the cloudburst, the influx from the mountain washed away about 40 tents including 3 langars set up for the devotees. The inundation came out in the middle of the tents made for the devotees in front of the cave. Several teams related to disaster management including Army, NDRF and SDRF are engaged in relief and rescue work. People were immediately evacuated from the tents of the flood-hit camp to the slopes of the mountain. Many people have been saved. The injured are being airlifted. About five thousand people were present near the cave at the time of the accident. The journey has been put on hold for the time being. Several teams related to disaster management including Army, NDRF and SDRF are continuously engaged in relief and rescue work.
