The election for the country’s highest office i.e. President is to be held on 18 July. As the polling date nears, there has been a stir in the political camps. BJP-led NDA’s candidate Draupadi Murmu and opposition’s candidate Yashwant Sinha are busy campaigning vigorously. Both are going to different states and seeking support from political parties.

Meanwhile, opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha reached Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow on Thursday. A big program was organized for him at the Samajwadi Party office here. During this, all the MLAs and MPs of Samajwadi Party and RLD were also present.

After this program, it was said that Yashwant Sinha could get a big setback in UP. It is being said that he will not be able to get as many votes as he should have got from the opposition side in Uttar Pradesh. Let us know why this is so…?

First know, from where did Sinha get support till now?

Yashwant Sinha has got the support of many parties like Congress, NCP, TMC, CPI, CPI(M) Samajwadi Party, RLD, RSP, TRS, DMK, National Conference, CPI, RJD, Kerala Congress (M). Yashwant currently has votes worth about three lakh 89 thousand. All parties big and small in Kerala have supported Yashwant Sinha only. In such a situation, it is possible that the NDA candidate from here Draupadi Murmu may not get a single vote here.

Why can there be a setback in UP?

In UP, some opposition parties led by the Samajwadi Party have supported Yashwant Sinha. Bahujan Samaj Party has already announced its support to NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu. Yashwant Sinha may also get a setback from Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, which is now part of the SP alliance. This is because Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar and his MLAs were not invited to the program organized for Yashwant Sinha. OP Rajbhar’s party has six MLAs. Rajbhar, who is angry with this move of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, may support NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu. He will also announce for this in the next day or two.

Which parties supported Draupadi Murmu?

NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu has so far been nominated for BJP, BJD, YSR Congress, Janata Dal Secular, Shiromani Akali Dal, JDU, AIADMK, Lok Jan Shakti Party, Apna Dal (Sonelal), Nishad Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Republican Party of India. Parties like (Athawale), NPP, NPF, MNF, NDPP, SKM, AGP, PMK, AINR Congress, Jannayak Janata Party, UDP, IPFT, UPPL have given their support.

Despite being in opposition, BJD, YSR Congress, Janata Dal Secular, Akali Dal and Bahujan Samaj Party have supported the NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu. All of them have votes worth more than 6 lakhs. This figure is much more than the number needed to win.

These parties have not clarified the situation yet

Most of the major parties have made their position clear for the presidential election. But the position of some parties is still not clear. There is Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab and Delhi. There are also 10 Rajya Sabha MPs. Till now the Aam Aadmi Party has not clarified anything regarding the Presidential election.

Apart from this, TDP, JMM have also not cleared anything so far. Shiv Sena has also not announced the support of any candidate till now due to internal strife. However, it is believed that the MLAs and most of the MPs who form the government with the BJP will support the NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu.
