After Maharashtra, now the political turmoil has started in Rajasthan. The fight between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot is again coming to the fore. BJP has also jumped into this. Overall, the politics of the state is getting hot like Maharashtra. It is also being said that before the assembly elections to be held next year, there will be a big change in the politics of the state.

Let us know why suddenly the political turmoil started again in Rajasthan. What is the new controversy between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Congress leader Sachin Pilot? What is the role of BJP in this?

To understand the controversy, first read these statements of the leaders

The political turmoil in Rajasthan started with a statement by Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Addressing a gathering on 19 June 2022, the Union Minister mentioned about Sachin Pilot being a rebel in 2020. Said, ‘At that time Sachin Pilot made a mistake, Rajasthan MLAs could not take a decision like Madhya Pradesh’.

Congress also became active as soon as Shekhawat spoke so much. Sachin Pilot hit back at the BJP the very next day. Said, ‘The public has understood, now they will not make the mistake of choosing you and will not fall into false promises.’

It was possible that after this reply of the pilot, the matter would be settled, but it did not happen. On June 25, five days after Pilot’s statement, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also jumped into the controversy. While addressing a gathering, Gehlot targeted Shekhawat as well as Sachin Pilot.

The Chief Minister said, ‘Gajendra Shekhawat has stamped that you yourself were allied with Pilot in the conspiracy to topple the government.’ Even though Gehlot was replying to Shekhawat, he also wrapped Sachin Pilot in his statement. So much so that the controversy takes hold. The next day i.e. on June 26, Rajasthan government minister Shanti Dhariwal also said yes to Gehlot. Said, ‘What has the Chief Minister said wrong? We also believe so, we have seen this ourselves.’

Now Congress leader of Uttar Pradesh Acharya Pramod Krishnam has also jumped in this controversy. He retweeted Ashok Gehlot’s statement, in which he is saying that it has become clear that Gajendra Shekhawat was trying to topple the government along with Sachin Pilot.

Retweeting this video, Pramod Krishnam wrote, ‘Neel Kantha’, who drinks poison, is anointed in the month of ‘Shravan’, Har Har Mahadev.

On the other hand, Pilot camp MLA Indraj Gurjar also retaliated amidst continuous attacks from the Gehlot camp. Taking a jibe at Chief Minister Gehlot, he tweeted, “A man sitting on the ground never falls, he cares about those who are in the air.”

On June 27, Sachin Pilot again responded to Gehlot’s statement. In this he said, ‘Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is my father figure, my elder. He doesn’t feel bad for what he said. They have called me useless, worthless before. My focus is on winning the 2023 assembly elections.

Now know what can happen before the election?

We talked to Dr. Anil Chaudhary, Professor of Political Science about this. He said, ‘The assembly elections are to be held in Rajasthan in the next year i.e. 2023. Before this, a lot of new things have to happen in the politics of the state. At present, the Pilot camp is on edge in the Congress. Generally, Sachin Pilot has avoided making any controversial statement. Even when he rebelled in 2020, he did not directly target Gehlot or the Congress high command. In such a situation, it is possible that before the elections, some big responsibility should be given to him in the Congress itself. In 2020, when he was angry with Gehlot, he was pacified by the Congress high command by giving him the same assurance. Now the time has come when some big responsibility should be given to Sachin.

Choudhary further says, ‘Maybe before the elections, Sachin Pilot should be made the state president of the Congress and elections should be fought under his leadership. He can also be projected as the next Chief Minister. However, it is less likely. Other indications are that if he is not given a bigger responsibility in the Congress, he may revolt again. In such a situation, he would prefer to go with the BJP. Because, many of his Congress colleagues, including Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasad, are now playing a good role in the BJP. After separating from Congress, Pilot can also announce a new party.

What happened till now?

Assembly elections were held in Rajasthan in 2018. Then Congress had won 100 seats and BJP 73 seats. During the election, Sachin Pilot was a big contender for the Chief Minister, but the party high command made Ashok Gehlot the Chief Minister. Sachin Pilot was made Deputy CM.

Since then the pilots were running angry. After a year and a half after the formation of the government, Sachin Pilot reached Delhi with 18 of his supporters MLAs. It was then being said that soon Pilot and his supporting MLAs would topple the government. However, then the Congress High Command took over the whole matter.

Due to the entire political drama, Sachin Pilot had to lose the post of Deputy CM. Since then, on different occasions, Ashok Gehlot and his supporters keep taunting Sachin Pilot.
