Once again a wave of political change has emerged from Sangrur and the threat of this ‘revenge…’ will be heard in the political circles for a long time. The victory has not only been decided by the by-election, but people have shown the mirror to other political parties as well.

Shiromani Akali Dal stood fifth in this by-election and got only 44428 votes. This has once again raised questions on the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal. On the other hand, the BJP may have come fourth but it has got 66298 votes. Congress, which comes third, has got 79668 votes. So, he too will have to churn again.

With this defeat, AAP’s entry in the Lok Sabha has stopped. Simranjit Singh Mann will once again enter Parliament as an MP after 23 years. Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency has a history that this seat has not belonged to any one party. After Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, it is Simranjit Singh Mann who has won the Lok Sabha elections for the second time from this seat. Earlier in 1999, Simranjit Singh Mann had won the Lok Sabha elections. Simranjit Mann has won the 1989 election from the Tarn Taran Lok Sabha seat. Whereas Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has created history by winning from Sangrur with record votes in 2014 and 2019.

Simranjit Singh Mann has been an IPS officer

Simranjit Singh Mann is born in Shimla and belongs to a large family. Mann, a 1967 batch IPS officer, quit his job on 18 June 1984 in protest against Operation Blue Star. Mann is the brother-in-law of former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Mann has always promoted extremist politics. However, political experts believe that in this victory, the anger among the people towards AAP has contributed more.

With this defeat, the intention of the Aam Aadmi Party to influence the people by presenting the Punjab model in the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana, Himachal and Gujarat has also been eclipsed. Punjab, which brought AAP to its feet, has brought it to the floor in three months. AAP’s defeat on Jaddi seat is being discussed at the national level.
