Shah Rukh Khan On Romantic Films: Be it Rahul in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ or ‘Raj of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, some of Shah Rukh Khan’s most memorable characters have been some of his popular romantic films. However, now he is not in the mood to work in rom-coms. During an Instagram live session, Shah Rukh Khan said that he feels “too old to do romantic films now”.

Shah Rukh’s reply came in response to a question from a fan who asked if he ever wanted to play a character like Rahul or Raj. The actor said he feels “at times strange” to romance actresses who are “much younger” than him.

He said, “I don’t want to sound weird, but I don’t remember when was the last time I played Rahul. All I can remember is, ‘Rahul, Naam Toh Suna Hoga.’ So, I don’t remember the roles/characters. Also, I feel that I am too old to do romantic films now. It’s weird sometimes. I remember, many years ago, I was working in a film and the actress in front of me was much younger than me. It was strange to do romantic scenes with him. I’m a little shy. But then you are an actor. I have to imagine that I am his age. Maybe characters like Rahul or Raj are meant for younger people.

Shah Rukh Khan further said, “When I came to films, I never thought that I would be known as a character. I have a part in them. And I am very into Pathan. I feel like a Pathan.” As the live continued, Shah Rukh Khan also recalled his 30-year journey in Bollywood. He remembered how he started shooting for Hema Malini’s ‘Dil Aashna Hai’ 30 years ago. He said that one of the reasons for his becoming an actor is to make people laugh and also bring a change in their day.

He said, “I have always believed that I will try to work out as much as possible because the first time, when I did my serial Fauji, I remember I was in a three-wheeler and two women saw me and shouted, ‘Abhi’ (his character’s name from the series). At that time, I thought to myself that this is the reason why I am going to act and bring smiles on people’s faces.”

Not only this, King Khan says that he cannot believe that he has been in the industry for 30 years. He said, “I was talking to my wife and children. No one knows it’s been such a long time. It’s a lifetime. I came to Mumbai hoping to work for a maximum of 10 films or a few years. If things don’t work out, I thought I’d find some kind of job in films – whether it’s lighting a set or helping a director. I just loved movies.

He said that if things don’t work out for him as an actor, he is ready for anyone to come on the sets because “cinema inspires him. My wife (Gauri Khan) keeps asking me why for so many years. After how I wake up in the morning, do my makeup and go to work and do the same thing. I don’t know. I just find it exciting to go on sets and create something that can make a difference in someone’s day.

Talking about the work front, Shahrukh Khan is returning to films after a gap of four years. He will be seen in YRF’s ‘Pathan’, followed by Atlee’s ‘Jawan’ and Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunky’.
