The CBI today conducted raids at 16 locations across the country in connection with a bribery case related to a power project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar. The matter was raised by former Governor Satya Pal Malik. Kiru Hydro Power Project Ltd. Bribery was allegedly done in awarding the contract for civil work of K.
CBI is investigating this case today at two places in Srinagar, five in Jammu, five in Delhi, three in Mumbai and one in Patna. These 16 locations have been given to middlemen and people related to the project. The then governor Malik had alleged that a bribe of Rs 300 crore was offered for its approval.
CBI officials said that during the investigation, they came to know about some suspicious transactions of the accused government officials. These include Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd. Transactions of the then Chairman of Naveen Kumar Choudhary are also involved. Officials said the probe agency is conducting searches at the premises of Patel Engineering Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Rupen Patel, Vijay Gupta and Amarendra Kumar Singh in Mumbai.
In April, the CBI had registered two cases in this case. The investigating agency then conducted raids in six states. Two FIRs were registered by former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on corruption charges. Former Governor Satya Pal Malik had alleged in a public meeting that he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear two files on Jammu and Kashmir. These files pertained to the group medical insurance scheme for government employees belonging to the Kiru Hydroelectric Project in the state.
