BJP’s victory in Azamgarh and Rampur will benefit NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. With the victory of two MPs from the state, where the BJP’s votes have increased by 1400, the same number of SP votes has decreased.
The weightage of a vote of an MP in the Presidential election is 700, whereas till the last election it was 708. This has happened due to non-existence of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The maximum 80 MPs in the country are elected from UP. Therefore, the total votes of MPs are also the highest in the state.
After winning the by-election, the BJP has 64 MPs in the state. Its ally Apna Dal has two MPs. The number of MPs of SP has come down from 5 to 3. At the same time, the weightage of the vote of an MLA in UP is also the highest in the country at 208. Due to the high population, the MLAs here get more weightage.
