BJP national general secretary CT Ravi has hit out at BJP national general secretary for the “rubber stamp president” remark of Yashwant Sinha, joint opposition candidate for presidential election. CT Ravi said that a tribal woman is not capable of this post, Sinha’s this shows her bad mentality. He was responding to a question in which Sinha urged the BJP-led NDA’s candidate for elections, Draupadi Murmu, not to become a rubber-stump president after winning. Murmu belongs to a tribal community of Odisha.
CT Ravi said, such mentality is dangerous
Ravi said, of course, the country does not need a rubber stamp president, but in the same way, the mentality of spreading false propaganda against tribal women who have gone ahead on their own is dangerous. Talking to reporters, she said that as a tribal woman, Murmu has already proved her abilities as the Governor of Jharkhand, as a minister and MLA in Odisha and as a lecturer in a college. The feeling that the tribal woman is not capable reflects one’s poor mentality.
Ravi said Murmu will visit Karnataka on July 10 to seek votes, and based on the current numbers, she is certain to win the July 18 presidential elections. Sinha, who was in Bengaluru on Sunday as part of his election campaign, attended the Congress Legislature Party meeting here and accused the BJP-led central government of misusing agencies like ED, CBI, Income Tax to collect accounts from political opponents.
Chikmagalur MLA Ravi said the ED or the Income Tax department does nothing against honest people, but corrupt people cannot escape them. If someone is corrupt, he needs to worry. Honest people need not worry. He also welcomed the JD(S)’s plan to support Murmu in the presidential election. The regional party led by former prime minister HD Deve Gowda has already indicated support for Murmu.
Vice Presidential Election Schedule
The process of filing nominations for the Vice Presidential election on August 6 will start from Tuesday and will continue till July 19. The tenure of current Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu is ending on August 10. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on July 20 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is July 22. The process of filing nominations begins when the Election Commission (EC) issues a notification, calling upon voters to elect the next Vice-Chairman.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has a clear lead in the election, with members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, including nominees, eligible to vote. Political parties have not yet declared the names of their candidates for the elections. The Vice President is also the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. In the election of the Vice President, the electoral college consists of a total of 788 members from both the houses of the Parliament. Since all voters are members of Parliament, each MP’s vote will have the same value. The Election Commission had given this information in a statement issued on June 29.
