The Bombay High Court on Monday granted bail to the actor’s roommate Siddharth Pithani, who was arrested last year in a drugs case that hit the headlines after the death of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In the case, Justice Bharti Dangre ordered bail on a personal bond of Rs 50,000. It is worth noting that after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Siddharth was arrested on May 28 last year by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the drugs case.

Siddharth had approached the High Court after his first three bail appeals were rejected in this case. The application was filed by Advocate Advait Tamhankar. In this petition, it was argued on behalf of Pithani that there was no such evidence against him to prove that he was involved in illegal drug trafficking. At the same time, it was argued on behalf of the NCB that there are videos and other evidence on his laptop and phone. Along with this, bank transactions through the accounts of Sushant Singh Rajput are also related to the purchase of narcotics.

Pithani has been booked under section 27A (illegal traffic and harboring criminals) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, among other charges. In this case, Pithani also said in his bail plea that Section 27A has been wrongly invoked against him.

Significantly, after the sudden death of Bollywood’s famous actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the NCB had started an investigation into the drug connection in the film industry. In this case, many people including Sushant’s girlfriend Riya Chakraborty and his brother Shouvik Chakraborty were arrested in this case. At present, most of the accused are out on bail. The names of many Bollywood actors including Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Pandey, Deepika Padukone, Bharti Singh were revealed in this case.
