Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday said mid-term elections are likely in Maharashtra as the Eknath Shinde-led government may fall in the next six months. He made this statement while addressing the NCP MLAs and other party leaders on Sunday evening.
With the distribution of ministerial posts, there will be a break in the MLAs
Sharad Pawar said that many rebel MLAs supporting Shinde are not happy with the current system. Once the ministerial portfolios were divided their unrest would come to the fore, eventually resulting in the fall of the government.
Many rebel MLAs will return to their original party
Pawar also said that due to the failure of this experiment, many rebel MLAs will return to their original party. He said that if we have only six months in our hands, then NCP MLAs should spend more time in their respective assembly constituencies.
On Thursday, Shinde took oath as CM and Fadnavis took oath as Deputy CM.
Eknath Shinde was on Thursday sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra after the collapse of the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government, while senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the Deputy CM. Around 40 Shiv Sena MLAs, led by Shinde, revolted against the party leadership, resulting in the fall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on Wednesday.
Shinde Sarkar’s floor test today
The result of the political turmoil that has been going on in Maharashtra politics for the last almost a month will be in the form of a floor test today. Marathon meetings were held in the politics of the state before the floor test. CM Eknath Shinde held a meeting with 39 MLAs of Shiv Sena. On the other hand, Uddhav Thackeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar have also held an important meeting. Regarding the floor test, every major political faction of the state is busy in deciding the strategy at its level.
