On the third day (July 3) in the Edgbaston Test, England’s explosive batsman Jonny Bairstow scored a brilliant century. He played an innings of 106 runs in 140 balls. Bairstow hit 14 fours and two sixes in his innings. During this match, there was a tremendous debate between Bairstow and Virat Kohli. Bairstow batted stormy after that encounter and devastated the Indian bowling.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag indirectly blamed Virat Kohli for Bairstow’s innings. He said that Bairstow, who batted like Cheteshwar Pujara, was made like Rishabh Pant by Kohli. Sehwag tweeted, “Jonny Bairstow had a strike rate of 21 before sledging by Kohli. Turns 150 after sledging. Playing like a priest. Kohli made Pant unnecessarily by sledging.
Apart from Sehwag, New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham also cited sledging as the reason behind Bairstow’s explosive innings. He tweeted, “Why is the opposition team constantly bugging Bairstow. He gets 10 times better. Gifts should be given every morning in the morning to keep them happy.
