Whether it is the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh or the Lok Sabha elections, only one name from the Congress party remains in the discussion all the time. That name is former Chief Minister of the state and strong leader Digvijay Singh. But this time Singh has kept a complete distance from the civic body elections. He is neither seen in any publicity nor is making any statement. However, the absence of Diggi Raja is not being seen as an outrage but as a Congress strategy.
In this year’s civic elections, the Congress party has entered the fray in a strong manner. Kamal Nath and his team are besieging the BJP on every front. But former CM Digvijay Singh is not yet visible on the front foot in the corporation elections. Singh is always in the discussion from his controversial statements to the methods of campaigning. It is because of the statements that the BJP every time becomes an attacker on the Congress party. Due to this the party has to bear the brunt in the elections. This is the reason that this time instead of appearing in front, Digvijay Singh is taking the responsibility of making his candidates win from behind the scenes.
Sources in the Madhya Pradesh Congress Party say that the municipal elections are the semi-finals of the 2023 assembly elections. That is why the Congress party has entered the fray with full hard work. Kamal Nath and his team are meeting from campaigning to win the candidates. As far as Digvijay Singh is concerned, instead of campaigning, he is trying to persuade the rebels to go door-to-door to stop the factionalism of the party. Bhopal’s mayoral candidate is from Vibha Patel Singh’s camp. But they have gone to his preaching only once. In place of Singh, Suresh Pachauri and PC Sharma have taken the field in Bhopal. In Bhopal, both the leaders are seen in the campaign from councilor to mayor. While Digvijay Singh is playing an important role in coordinating the party leaders. From behind the scenes, he is engaged in preparing the election strategy along with the leaders and workers of all the big cities.
Digvijay celebrating the workers by going home
Senior journalist and writer Brajesh Rajput, who monitors the politics of Madhya Pradesh, says in a discussion with Amar Ujala that Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh have decided their roles in the civic elections of Madhya Pradesh. Kamal Nath and his team are campaigning all over Madhya Pradesh. While Digvijay Singh is engaged in the work of strengthening the workers at the grassroots level and persuading the disgruntled workers. Singh had held the same responsibility in the 2018 assembly elections as well. Even then Kamal Nath was a big face of the party. Singh took the responsibility of strengthening the organization.
Recently, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh also took a meeting at the Congress office. In this, he had clearly told the workers that those who are angry, tell them clearly that Kamal Nath ji has given ticket to the one who has got the ticket in the civic elections and if anyone’s ticket is cut, then Digvijay Singh has cut his ticket. Such disgruntled workers should come and talk to me directly. Those party workers who are angry, I will celebrate by going to their homes. After this, he also went to the homes of angry workers in Bhopal and persuaded them. After this, he was also engaged in election work. It is certainly true that he is rarely seen in the campaign than before. Because somewhere they feel that if I go and campaign in the elections, then somewhere the party will suffer. That’s why he is seen avoiding much publicity.
BJP also in trouble due to Diggi’s absence
Due to not being on the front foot of Digvijay Singh in the civic elections, this time the BJP seems to be in a bit of a dilemma. Every time the BJP puts the Congress in the dock on the pretext of Digvijay Singh’s tenure. But the BJP is not getting a chance to launch a direct attack due to Singh’s absence. However, the BJP also knows that Digvijay Singh is playing an important role from ticket distribution to campaigning.
Digvijay Singh was instrumental in the victory of the Congress party in the 2018 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. Scindia had the responsibility of star campaigner. For this reason, Congress got a big victory in Gwalior-Chambal. But in the rest of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh had strengthened the party’s roots. It was his ground hold on the workers that brought power to the party. Even after the separation of Scindia, Singh stood firm with Kamal Nath.
