Bhagwant Mann Led Government In Punjab Likely To Expand Its Cabinet Soon

The Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab is going to expand its first cabinet soon. According to party sources, the Bhagwant Mann-led government may soon expand its cabinet with at least five MLAs made ministers.

With the addition of five more ministers, the number of the Mann-led cabinet will increase to 15, including the chief minister. Aam Aadmi Party got a thumping majority in the Punjab Assembly Elections 2022. After this 10 MLAs took oath as ministers. The cabinet has a total capacity of 18 ministers. Presently there are nine ministers in the Punjab cabinet.

In May, Health Minister Vijay Singla was sacked from the state cabinet on charges of corruption. Since then the health department is with CM Bhagwant Mann. According to party sources, a woman and a Hindu face are likely to participate in the cabinet expansion. Dr. Baljit Kaur is the only woman minister in the Mann cabinet.

There is talk of including at least one MLA, who was a two-time MLA, in the cabinet. For the second time, Kultar Singh Sandhwa has been made the Speaker of the Assembly and Jaikishan Rodi has been made the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. Harpal Singh Cheema and Meet Hair have already got important responsibilities in the cabinet. The Aam Aadmi Party returned to power during the state assembly elections, winning 92 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly.

Which minister has which department?

At present, there are nine ministers in the Punjab cabinet. With five more MLAs taking oath, this number will increase to 15 including the Chief Minister. The total number of ministers cannot exceed 18. The government will keep three seats vacant for now. All eyes are also on what portfolios the new ministers will get in case of expansion of the cabinet. At present, the responsibility of most departments is with Chief Minister Mann.
