For the first time in India, the celebration of National Doctor’s Day started in the year 1991. This year the Central Government celebrated Doctor’s Day for the first time. Celebration of this day was started in the memory of a doctor. His name was Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy.
Actually Dr. Bidhan Chandra Rai is the former Chief Minister of Bengal. He was also a physician, who had a great contribution in the field of medicine. Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was instrumental in the establishment of Jadavpur TB Medical Institute. He became famous as the first medical consultant in the subcontinent of India. On February 4, 1961, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was also awarded the Bharat Ratna. To recognize the unprecedented contribution in the service of humanity, the Central Government started celebrating National Doctor’s Day.
There is also a special reason to celebrate Doctor’s Day on July 1. The great physician Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was born on 1 July 1882. Not only this, Dr. Bidhan died on July 1, 1962. For this reason, on the day of his birthday and death anniversary, it was announced to celebrate National Doctor’s Day on July 1 to honor every doctor in his memory.
