An explosive material was hurled at the state headquarters of the ruling CPI(M) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on Thursday night. The explosive thrower was caught on CCTV. Throwing explosives is clearly visible in the footage. the police has started to investigate.

Police said that a man on a two-wheeler hurled an explosive material at around 11.30 pm at the AKG Center located in the capital Thiruvananthapuram. CPI(M) leaders who reached the spot alleged that it was a bomb attack. Some party leaders staying at the AKG center said they heard a loud bang outside the building. Police was immediately alerted and a team of top officials inspected the spot and CCTV cameras were checked. Bomb disposal squad also inspected the spot.
Accused caught on CCTV
In the CCTV footage released by the CPI(M) through the official media group of the AKG Centre, a man came on a scooter and it was clearly visible that he was hurling bombs towards the building and running away from the spot. The explosive allegedly hit the stone wall of the AKG center and exploded, causing smoke in the vicinity.
The ruling party accused the Congress
Senior CPI(M) leader and LDF convener EP Jayarajan, who lives nearby, alleged that Congress was behind the act and appealed to CPI(M) workers to remain calm. The opposition Congress, however, has denied these allegations.
Security tightened around Congress offices
Meanwhile, several ministers from Kerala, including Finance Minister KN Balagopal, Education Minister V Shivankutty, reached the spot. Several CPI(M) workers took out a protest march in the city. The activists also staged protests at Pathanamthitta and other places in the state. As tense situation prevailed, police tightened security around Congress offices in the state. CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan called for a peaceful protest.
Rahul Gandhi coming to Kerala on Friday
Police said that investigation has been started to identify the culprits behind the attack. The incident comes ahead of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s visit to his parliamentary constituency Wayanad on Friday.
