The first rain of monsoon brought relief to the people from the scorching heat but also created trouble. The entire city was submerged due to intermittent 40.75 mm of rain from 8 am to 5 pm. All the major squares, squares, roads, colonies and streets were turned into ponds. The amount of more than 1.5 crores spent on cleaning the drains and drains was washed away in the first rain itself.
The drain built in front of the corporation headquarters was overflowing and flowing on the road. Due to this, there was a traffic jam at many places. The worst condition was of NIT and Badkhal area. Water had accumulated in most of the colonies here. In such a situation, people found it difficult to come and go. Although the Municipal Corporation kept trying to extract water by putting pumps on all the disposals, but the residents could not get relief soon. Many important roads including Bata Chowk, DC Awas Road remained submerged till late evening.

The water logging situation at these places got the corporation’s claims washed away in the rain on Thursday morning. Due to waterlogging on the roads, the traffic system of the city completely collapsed. On the National Highway, it was seen from Ballabhgarh to Goodyear Chowk, Goodyear Chowk to Bata Chowk, Ajrond Chowk, Sector-7-8 Chowk and Ballgarh Chowk, Sector-22, 23, Sector-15A. Apart from this, the dividing road of Sector-7-8, 9-10, 10-11, the road to the rest house of Sector-16, the road of Sector-11 and 12, Sector, six, seven, eight, nine, 15, 16, Main Roads 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30, 31 & 37, BK-Hardware Chowk, Railway Road, Sector-7 & 9 of HUDA Market, Sector-9 & 10’s Dividing Road Ballabhgarh bus stand was filled with water.
Cleaning of drains was done by spending one and a half crores
After running a campaign for four months, before the rain, the engineering department had got the drains and drains cleaned. About one and a half to two crore rupees were also spent on this, but the rain on Thursday failed the engineering of the corporation engineers. Newtown Railway Station Road and DC Awas Road were knee-deep in water. The public had to bear the brunt of this.

The Municipal Corporation has set up a control room to deal with the problem of water logging and overflow of sewer line/nala etc. Residents can contact the control room by phone. Corporation Commissioner Yashpal Yadav said that teams of officers have been deployed to deal with any kind of emergency situation. The control room will be operated 24 hours.
