President Poll: Nomination Papers Of Nda Nominee Droupadi Murmu & Opposition Candidate Yashwant Sinha Found In Order

Nominations of NDA’s ruling NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu and opposition’s joint candidate Yashwant Sinha for next month’s presidential election have been found valid.
According to the information given by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, a total of 115 candidates had filed nominations. PC Modi, general secretary of the Rajya Sabha, said that 28 of these nominations were rejected on the day of presentation itself. He said that out of 87 pamphlets of 72 candidates for presidential election, 79 were canceled for not fulfilling the required criteria.

A total of 115 nominations were filed till Wednesday, the last day of filing nominations for the Presidential election to be held on July 18, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said. Out of these, 28 nominations were rejected due to non-submission of electoral rolls with the names of the candidates.

Apart from Murmu and Sinha, many common people have also filed their nominations for the country’s top constitutional post. These include a Mumbai slum dweller, a namesake of Rashtriya Janata Dal founder Lalu Prasad Yadav, a social activist from Tamil Nadu and a professor from Delhi. Draupadi Murmu is likely to be elected President given the support of various parties.

50 proposers and 50 seconders mandatory
The Election Commission has made it mandatory for those filing nominations for the Presidential elections, at least 50 proposers and 50 seconders. The proposer and seconder must be members of the electoral college. Before the 11th presidential election in 1997, the number of proposers and seconders was increased from 10 to 50. Then the security deposit was also increased to Rs 15,000. Presidential elections will be held on 18 July. The final list of candidates will be published in the gazette after the last date of withdrawal of 2 July.
