It is claimed that the trial run of the first rapid rail will be done in August-2022 and the train will be fully running in the first phase in March-2023. The most advanced technology system in India will be used to run the first Regional Rapid Rail, has been claimed by NCRTC.

The European Train Control System (ETCS) will use Hybrid Level-3 technology to run Rapid Rail. Although initially its level-2 will be used. It is one of the most advanced signaling and train control systems in the world. This will be the first time in India that the latest ETCS standard, digital interlocking and automatic train operation will be used on Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio. This will prove to be effective in increasing the high frequency of trains, better headway and throughput. The system will be equipped with Automatic Train Operation (ATO) functionality, which will be used to control the traction system, acceleration and braking system of the trains.

NCRTC spokesperson Puneet Vats said, “Initially, we will introduce Level-2 of ETCS for the first time. This means that the train door and platform screen doors will be closed first, then the train will move on. You must have often seen many videos that in a hurry to board or deboard the train, some passengers get stuck between the platform and the train and accidents happen. In view of this, this technique is being adopted. Simply put, there will be two doors. The first door will be of the platform screen doors and the second door will be of the train. There will be no accident due to this, it is being claimed.

At present, indoor installation, outdoor installation, cabling and system testing for signal and telecom for trains is going on at Duhai depot in Ghaziabad. Only after this is completed the trial run can begin. In indoor installation, signal machines are being installed in the rooms through which these signals will be run. The outdoor installation consists of Point Machine (track changing device), Signal (red and green signal for train movement) and Axle Center (device to show train location). Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai depot stations are in the first phase. Their construction work has reached the final stage. These stations will be ready for trial run as soon as the signaling work is completed.
