Rope-way travel will now be cheaper in Himachal Pradesh. In the 47th meeting of the GST Council, which was held in Chandigarh on Wednesday, the Central Government has reduced the GST on ropeway fare from 18 to 5 percent. Rope-way tickets will become cheaper in the state as soon as this system is implemented from July 18. At the same time, 12 per cent GST will be levied on rooms of hotels priced up to Rs 1000. With this, now a room of Rs 1000 will be available for Rs 1120. Due to cheap ropeway tickets, tourism will get wings in the state. Ropeway facility is being provided in five districts of Shimla, Solan, Kullu, Kangra and Bilaspur districts of the state.
Himachal Pradesh Energy Minister Sukhram Chaudhary, Principal Secretary Tax and Excise Subhasish Panda and Excise Commissioner Yunus were present in the GST Council meeting on Wednesday. The state government has been advocating for a long time to reduce GST on ropeway fare. At present five ropeways are running in the state at Parwanoo Timber Trail Resort, Bilaspur-Naina Devi, Shimla-Jakhu, Dharamsala and Solangnala in Kullu. On the other hand, State President of Hotel Industry Stakeholder Association, Mahendra Seth said that due to 12 per cent GST, the government will no longer feel the slack in hotel rooms. Many hoteliers used to display rooms of higher price than Rs 1000 only to take advantage of the exemption in GST.
The fare of Jakhu Ropeway will be reduced by Rs 60
The fare to and from Jakhu Ropeway of the capital Shimla is currently Rs 550 per person. It attracts 18% GST. If GST is 5 percent, this fare will be reduced by Rs 60.
Now the rent of Rs 1120 will have to be paid on the room of 1000
Now 12 per cent GST will be levied on hotel rooms priced up to Rs 1000 in the state. Till now, rooms of hotels priced up to Rs 1000 were exempted from GST by the central government. After the implementation of the new system, a room of Rs 1000 will be available for Rs 1120.
