The flood situation in Assam is deteriorating day by day. The flood situation in the state worsened on Wednesday. On Wednesday, 12 more people died due to floods. According to the latest bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the number of people affected by the floods has risen to 31.5 lakh. At the same time, Silchar city of Cachar district has been submerged in water for the last 10 days.

A bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that 11 people died due to floods and one person died due to landslides. With today’s deaths, the death toll in the state due to floods and landslides has gone up to 151 this year. Apart from this, the number of flood affected in 26 districts has increased to 31.54 lakh. This number was 24.92 lakh on the previous day.
Rivers flowing above danger mark
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said the Brahmaputra, Beki, Kopili, Barak and Kushiyara rivers were flowing above the danger mark. Deputy Commissioner Kirti Jalli said that most of the areas of Silchar town were inundated with water. The residents here are facing shortage of food, drinking water and medicines. He said that Silchar has been submerged for the last 10 days due to the breach of the dam at Bethkundi. He said that the work of repairing the dam at Bethkundi is going on.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) Deputy Commissioner Kirti Jalli said that priority is being given to providing clean drinking water and food to the people affected by the floods. Medical camps are being organized by the Health Department in all the 28 Municipal Corporation wards of Silchar to ensure the prevention of water borne diseases.

Significantly, 2,675 villages in 79 revenue divisions have been affected by the floods across the state. 3,12,085 people from these villages have taken shelter in 569 relief camps. According to the ASDMA, 14.30 lakh people of Cachar are the worst affected due to the floods. After this, 5.49 lakh people are affected in Barpeta and 5.19 lakh people in Nagaon district. Five embankments have been breached and 177 roads and five bridges have been damaged in the state due to the floods.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that widespread erosion has been reported in Baksa, Barpeta, Vishwanath, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tamulpur and Tinsukia districts.
