The people of Delhi and NCR can get relief from the scorching heat on Thursday or July 1. According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon can knock in Delhi on June 30 or July 1. Light rain in Delhi and some adjoining areas on Tuesday evening has brought relief from the temperature above 40 degrees for two days.
RK Jenamani, Senior Scientist of the Meteorological Department said on Tuesday that there is a possibility of good rains in Delhi on June 30. This can be considered as the knock of monsoon in Delhi. Conditions are becoming favorable for further advance of Monsoon into Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh in the next 24 hours. There has been an increase in easterly winds, moisture and convective activity over the region, he said.
“We expect conditions to remain favorable for further advance of Monsoon into remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi in the next 48 hours,” he said. The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert of moderate rain for June 30. After this, the maximum temperature of the national capital is expected to drop to 33-34 degrees on July 1.
People were troubled by the humidity and heat throughout the day
Delhiites faced the brunt of the weather on Tuesday. The sultry heat more than the heat of the sun troubled the people. Tuesday was the hottest in the last four years with a maximum temperature of 41.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal. Earlier in 2019, the mercury reached 41.1 degree Celsius.
At the same time, the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal. The humidity level in the air was 45 to 74 percent. At the same time, the mercury remained above 42 degree Celsius in most areas of Delhi.
Chance of light rain with strong wind today
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will start turning in the next 24 hours. With cloudy sky, winds will blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Light rain may also occur. The department has also issued a yellow alert regarding this. The maximum temperature can remain 42 and the minimum temperature can be up to 30 degree Celsius. While issuing an orange alert for Thursday, the department has expressed the possibility of heavy rain.
